Give Thanks by Donating to Local Northwest Arkansas Charities this Holiday Season

While off the topic of real estate, I feel it’s a great time to post a reminder that not everyone in Northwest Arkansas is fortunate enough to have a Thanksgiving dinner or buy Christmas presents for their children.  While things are kind of rough for most people right now, everybody can do something to help out those that are less fortunate than us.  Here’s a list of ideas for you head scratchers:

Volunteer!

This is probably the single greatest thing you can do and it doesn’t cost a dime!  Head to your church and help with the food pantry or help with Thanksgiving or X-mas dinner.  The Salvation Army and Major Watts are always looking for bell ringers.  Make the rounds at a local nursing home and visit some of those less fortunate elderly people without much family to keep them company.  There are a million ways to volunteer your time this season.

Make a Christmas Wish Come True.

Churches, department stores, and local charities all organize gift giving to children that would otherwise not get any presents this holiday.  Buy a toy and drop it off to be distributed, sign up for a specific child and get whatever they’ve been wishing for, or ask friends and family if they know of anyone that needs a little help buying presents this year.

Make Your Christmas Their Christmas.

This one may not be for everyone, but it sure is a goodie.  Take the money your family was going to spend on each other and donate it to a local charity.  Tis’ better to give than receive.  Plus, I can’t think of anything that would make you feel better about yourself.

Attend Charity Functions

Northwest Arkansas has a bunch of these, especially around the holidays.  Check out the Night Divine Mercy Charity Ball or VIP Christmas Roast featuring Dick Trammel (benefits youth bridge).  Go over to Northwest Arkansas Events Online to check out a list of these and other things to do this season.

This is just a quick short list of things you can do to get your creative charity juices flowing for the holidays.  If you have an event that you would like to promote contact me and I’m sure I can help you out.

Happy Holidays everyone!
