Bull Housing Market Just Around the Corner!

I don’t know about you, but wouldn’t it be nice to hear these words on the evening news some day soon?  Bull Housing Market Just Around the Corner!  Real Estate Prices Have Bottomed!  Home Prices on the Rise!

While some economist and self professed fortune tellers proclaim long, dark years of depression for the United States and World economy, a sunny few think the bottom (and end) is in sight.

Is your Glass Half Full?

Now, if you aren’t a ‘glass half full’ kind of person, then you probably believe what the first set of economists and fortune tellers are telling you and are preparing to sit tight and wait out this storm of a recession.  You’ll watch your home prices plummet, you’ll watch the news and say, “Oh bother,” you’ll whine and complain about your money, your job, and your life being in the crapper.  That’s fine I guess, but what if you did something about it.  What if all of us DID something about it?  All 305,700,000 of us (as of this writing) doing something in a constructive, directed way would shorten this potential depression into just another short cyclical dip in our economic cycle.  Just a thought, a suggestion if you will.

What is Being Done?

We’ve got the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) trying to bailout out big banking, insurance, and wooden arrows.  The Fed is trying to loosen lending while giving banks more liquidity.  We’ve got a President Elect trying to figure it all out and put together a plan.  We’ve got Realtors and Housing Industry professionals across the country trying to fix what we helped to create (yeah, we definitely helped, admit it) through PAC’s (political action committees) and front line action.  What’s the average Joe (not Joe the Plumber) doing while all this is going on?  You’re working as much as possible to feed and clothe your family.  One of the problems with this recession (yes we’re in one) is that it hits basically everyone.  Not just in your wallet, but in your future, in your home.  Are you motivated to help fix things when you’re facing foreclosure?  Can you buy goods off the shelves when you’ve just lost your job?  Do you want do get out of bed in the morning when you know your 401(k) is worth half of what it was last year?  Of course not.

What Can You Do?

I like a quote from Zig Ziggler, one of the great motivational speakers.  He says, “We all need a daily ‘check up from the neck up’  to avoid stinkin ‘thinkin’ which ultimately leads to hardening of the attitudes.”  I think this is the single greatest thing we can all do.  Turn off the news, talk with your family about their feelings, what is going on, and what little things you can do to make things better.  Think about things that brighten your day and use them to brighten someone else’s.

Look to our Leaders, Look to Each Other.

Remind yourself.  Economies are cyclical, markets always prevail, our government (while flawed) is sound, and Americans have been through much more than the current crisis and still come out on the other side stronger, smarter, and better for the experience.

I invite everyone to comment that has anything to say about the current housing and economic events transpiring and what can be done to minimize the suffering of Americans and people all over the world.  Thanks for reading.
